WHAT IS AN ENERGY LABEL?

Energy Labels are an important information tool that indicates the energy efficiency and performance of electrically powered appliances. These labels play a major role in both environmental sustainability and economic savings.

The Energy Label is an information card showing the energy consumption and efficiency of the appliance. These labels are used in countries such as the European Union and Turkey to classify the energy performance of appliances. Energy labels classify appliances from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). This allows consumers to make informed choices about energy consumption.

INFORMATION ON THE ENERGY LABEL

Energy labels contain the following information:

QR Code: Allows access to detailed information about the device.

Name or Trade Mark of the supplier: Manufacturer information.

Model Marking: Model number of the device.

Energy Efficiency Class: Energy efficiency rating from A to G.

Annual Energy Consumption: Annual energy consumption in kilowatt hours (kWh).

Energy labels according to appliance types

Televisions

  • SDR and HDR Modes: Energy consumption per 1000 hours in standard dynamic range (SDR) and high dynamic range (HDR) modes.
  • Screen Size and Resolution: Information on screen sizes and resolution.

Refrigerators and Freezers

  • Annual Energy Consumption: Annual energy consumption in kilowatt hours.
  • Net Volume: Net volume of freezer and fresh food compartment.
  • Acoustic Noise Level: Sound level of the appliance during operation.

Dishwashers

  • Eco Programme Energy Consumption: Energy consumption in 100 cycles.
  • Water Consumption: Water consumption during the Eco programme.
  • Programme Duration: Duration of the Eco programme.

Washing Machines

  • Energy Consumption: Energy consumption in 100 cycles.
  • Water Consumption: Water consumption in 1 cycle.
  • Programme Duration: Duration of the Eco programme.
  • Spin Efficiency: Spin cycle efficiency class.

Air Conditioners

  • Heating and Cooling Mode: Energy efficiency and capacity values in both modes.
  • Sound Level: Sound power levels of indoor and outdoor units

Energy labels are an important guide that provides consumers with energy consumption information of home appliances and electronic devices. In recent years, these labels have undergone significant changes both in Turkey and the European Union.

Why Have Energy Labels Changed?

  1. Simplified Scale

Old energy labels contained complex classifications such as A+, A++ and A+++. This could be confusing for consumers. In the new system, these classifications were removed and a simple scale from A to G was introduced. This change enables consumers to more easily understand the energy efficiency of products.

Televisions contain 1000 hours of energy consumption information. These changes enable consumers to better understand energy efficiency.

Sound Level Information

The new labels also include sound level information. In this way, how much noise the devices produce during operation is evaluated and more comprehensive information is provided to consumers. The sound level classification ranges from A (quietest) to D.

Harmonisation of Turkey

Turkey switched to the new energy labeling system as of March 2021, within the framework of the Customs Union Agreement with the European Union. This situation contributes to consumers in Turkey becoming more conscious about energy efficiency.
